The Bill mandates an infant eye
dilation exam before babies leave the hospital; and at the 6-8 week and 6-9 month well-baby
exams. It is a simple test that would cost 10¢ and take 10 seconds of

Section 1. Section 383.04,
Florida Statutes, is amended to |

| |
|
| |
| 16 |
| |
read: |
| |
|
| |
|
| |

| |
383.04 Prophylactic
required for eyes of infants.--Every |

|
| |
|
| |
| 18 |
| |
physician, midwife, or other person in attendance at the
birth |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
| 19 |
| |
of a child in the state is required to instill or have
instilled |
| |

| |

| |
into the eyes of the baby within one hour after birth an
effective |
| |

| |

| |

prophylactic recommended by the Committee of Infectious

of the pupils for detection of pediatric congenital,

developmental abnormalities; however, this requirement
is not |

|
| |

| |
subject to s. 383.07. This section does not apply
to cases where |

|
| |
|
| |

the parents file with the physician, midwife, or other

|
| |

attendance of a birth of a child written objections on
account |

|
| |

of religious beliefs contrary to the use of drugs.
